OWENSBORO, KY – Fred Van Vliet, 71, passed away on October 21, 2018 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital.
Fred was born in Newark, NJ on March 8, 1947 to the late Charles and Dorothy (Kilgore) Van Vliet.
Fred attended Ridge High School in Basking Ridge, NJ until his senior year of high school. He then attended Somerset High School, graduating in 1966. He spent 8 years in the U. S. Air Force during the Vietnam era. He was also an electrician for 27 years at the V.A. Medical Center in Lebanon, PA and a member of Calvary Church.
Fred enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, fishing, hunting, traveling, hiking, metal detecting, and going on Jeep excursions.
Fred is preceded in death by a brother, Charles Van Vliet, and a sister-in-law, Marie Van Vliet.
Fred is survived by his daughters, Brenda Montgomery and her husband, Paul, of Owensboro, Marlene Schaffer and her husband, Ken of PA., Joann Sando and her husband, Brad, of PA., Michele Kramer of PA; grandchildren Stacia Schaffer, Kasey Jordan and her husband, Roy, Bryon Sando and his wife, Laura, Jennifer Sando, Gabriel Sando, Kenneth Strupp and his wife, Danielle; Michael Strupp and his wife, Kortney, Courtney Nicholls and her wife, Taylor, Matt Montgomery, Larry Montgomery, Margaret Montgomery, Aiden Montgomery, Jonathan Montgomery; 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is planned at a later date in Pennsylvania and a private burial service will take place at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA.
Boultinghouse Funeral Home has been entrusted with care.
